TRAFFIC STOP NETS SIXTY UNITS OF HEROIN

Officers representing the patrol divisions of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Marietta City Police Department dealt a blow to the local heroin trade with the seizure of sixty balloons of heroin. Along with the Major Crimes Task Force, officers conducted a stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 200 block of Pike Street around 9:20 pm last night. An exterior canine sniff of the vehicle indicated the presence of drugs and prompted a more thorough search. The resulting search yielded drug paraphernalia in a purse belonging to Stacy R. Thompson, age 29, 116 Harmar Street, Marietta. Under further questioning Ms. Thompson stated she had heroin concealed in a body cavity. Transported to the Washington County Jail, Ms. Thompson removed sixty balloons of heroin she secreted in the body cavity. Charged with a third degree felony offense of possession of heroin, Ms. Thompson remains incarcerated without bond pending her initial court appearance.

TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN ARRESTS FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

Following a vehicle traveling southbound on State Route 7 on 30 Jun 09, Deputy Sheriff Anderson observed the driver of the vehicle turn sharply onto Joe Skinner Road, swerving into the grass and back onto the roadway. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed active warrants for the owner, Natasha M. Treadway, age 20, 114 Main Street, Shelby, OH. Stopping the vehicle, Deputy Anderson discovered the driver Rodrick D. Pettis, age 20, 1124 Stadium Drive, Parkersburg, also had active warrants for his arrest.

The active warrants for both Pettis and Treadway stem from controlled purchases of crack cocaine the Major Crimes Task Force conducted on 15 May and 16 May 09. At Kroger and then at Wal-Mart, a confidential informant purchased two grams of crack cocaine from Pettis on successive days for $250 and $200. During the first transaction, Treadway handed the crack cocaine to Pettis which Pettis then proffered to the confidential informant. The warrant for Treadway’s involvement in the second transaction results from the fact that Task Force Detectives observed Treadway driving Pettis to Wal-Mart to sell the crack cocaine to the informant.

Pettis is incarcerated on a third degree felony charge of trafficking in crack cocaine in the vicinity of a juvenile and on a fourth degree felony charge of trafficking in cocaine. Similarly, Treadway is incarcerated on a third degree felony charge of complicity in trafficking in crack cocaine in the vicinity of a juvenile and on a fourth degree felony charge of trafficking in cocaine. Both suspects are being held without bond pending their initial appearance in Marietta Municipal Court.
